I have lived on the shoreline of Lake Michigan for many years and watched many changes in the Great Lakes. The five Great Lakes are the greatest freshwater system in the world. I have watched the lakes rise and fall, a natural phenomenon, and I have watched many changes season by season and year by year.
Between Sweetwater and Sand is a book of poems inspired by nature and especially the Great Lakes.

The Dynamic Great Lakes Reviews
The Great Lakes inspired me to write this book. It is widely available on the www at stores such as Amazon.com and bn.con plus many other places. It has been critically acclaimed by those who want information about the freshwater seas and their living webs of life.
Praise for The Dynamic
In her cautionary
book, environmental activist and professor Spring enthusiastically explores the
Great Lakes , and clearly explains why they
should be protected. —Book Sense Nov 22 2003
This is intriguing stuff for adults, but the straightforward
presentation also lends itself to use in schools. —Peter Wild U.S. Water News
Every library should have this book. —Stan Lievense, retired fish biologist MDNR

What Next for Great Lakes Weather.
Heavy winds from west to east caused rip currents and cross currents on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This photo was taken on Tuesday. The weather was quite warm and the unusual weather pattern has now changed to cold with rain.
What next? Heavy snow is predicted for this winter. I like to ski.
Read more about the Great Lakes in my non-fiction book, The Dynamic Great Lakes.

New Year's Resolution to Save the Great Lakes
On planet Earth the Great Lakes are freshwater treasures. Let's make a New Year's resolution to do all in our power to save them from exploitation, pollution, invasive species and more nuclear power plants on their shores. Nuclear power plants may look like a solution to global warming, but no one has solved the problem of how to dispose of their hightly toxic wastes.

The Great Lakes as seen from outer space. These freshwater lakes are fed by tributaries, ground water within their watersheds and by rain and snow. Lake levels rise and fall as they always have. The lakes contain cold water species of fish as well as warm water fish that thrive in their embayments
and in the shallowest lake, Lake Erie.
There is world class fishing to be found in the Great Lakes. Read more about their fish in my book, The Dynamic Great Lakes.

Last summer I painted this picture while visiting Mackinac Island
.
No cars are allowed so people get around on bicycles, horse drawn buggies or roller blades. As you can see on the picture, the water is a lovely shade of green at this spot where water flows into Lake Huron from Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. Wildflowers are blooming, sailboats sail and it's a wonderful Great Lakes getaway.

The five Great Lakes must be seen to be believed. When astronauts took this photo of them, we finally got an idea of their majesty. They flow following gravity toward the Atlantic where the freshwater flows into salt in the St. Lawrence estuary.
The Dynamic Great Lakes is not about a single lake but about a system and its connecting waters.
It is about the fish and other biota in these lakes.
It is about what we might do to preserve these lakes, but the first step is to learn about them. Some have called the book empowering. It is available from bn.com, Amazon.com. Canadians may order from Chapters.indigo.com as well as several on line stores and from the publisher at 1-301-695-1707.
The book has been critically acclaimed.
