Kite Boarding on Lake Michigan

Kite boarders enjoy the windy weather on Lake Michigan. Right now the south pier in Grand Haven is off limits due to construction.

Wild Weather

Wild weather.  From very cold to very warm and back again.  I am looking forward to spring.  It can't be too far away.  This is my photo of the pier, catwalk and lighthouse at the end of the Grand River that flows into Lake Michigan.

We are seeing eagles fishing and chasing birds now.  Their courtship is in February and the eagles are gathering. Read more about this phenomenon in my book, The Dynamic Great Lakes.

The Dynamic Great Lakes is available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com and many other places in stores and on the www.

A Walk on the Pier with Mallard Ducks & Ducklings

Many fish lines are in the water today at the pier on Lake Michigan.  A mallard duck keeps her
brood safe on a rock below.  While the ducklings snuggle together she keeps a look out. A salmon might find a duckling good eating although they are mostly interested in alewife.

Boating & Fishing on Lake Michigan

All  sorts of water sports make Grand Haven on Lake Michigan a lively place in the summer.  People love to stroll on the pier where the Grand River flows into Lake Michigan.  Fishing from the pier or from boats is popular as is sailing.

Read more about the Great Lakes and what lies under the water in my book, The Dynamic Great Lakes.
I will be at the Norton Shores, Michigan Barnes & Noble store on July 23 at 11 a.m. to chat about our wonderful Great Lakes and sign books.

Dangerous Conditions on Lake Michigan

When waves are crashing against the pier, it's not safe to venture out on it. Lives have been lost by people who were hit by a wave and knocked into the water. Waves are high today and kite surfers have been make the most of the wind.

Whenever I hear sirens, I hope that someone has not gotten into trouble on the big lake. The red flag is flying. That means it's not safe to go in the water, however there are always some that do.
